GOTCHA DAY

WE ARE PARENTS! This is truely amazing. We flew out of Beijing at 11:55, and got to Nanchang at about 2 O'Clock. We had a half hour at the hotel to get our baby supplies and gifts for the caretakers together. Then we ran off (via bus) to the Civil Affairs office at 3:30. She was placed into our arms at 5:15 PM (Caretakers were running late). The wait for them to arrive was agonizing. Not all of the babies in our group were on the same van, only 4. The other babies showed up about an hour later. Our friends the Huffords were one of them. I can't describe the feeling when they announced our name, I was tingling and shaking with excitement I think, but I was calm on the outside for Alicia's sake. Alicia did cry a little when handed to us, but mostly she is fairly good natured. We even got a laugh and smile from her!! We fed her Cheerios and played with the stacking cups while waiting for the other van of babies in our group to show up. She was quite hungry and enjoyed the Cheerios as well as playing with the stacking cups. Back in the hotel room I got a sippy cup of apple juice and she really enjoyed that. She was very thirsty as she could hardly wait for me to get it together. She would lean toward it and want some NOW. I need to run off to do paper work, Greg is on baby duty. Enjoy the photos.

Congratualtions! She is so beautiful! You look like one big, happy, family already! I feel like it is Christmas morning here and we're not even the ones with the baby! I, too, woke up early this morning, 3:00, and thought about you with her. I am so thankful for this blog!

Love you, Jean, Rich, and Olivia

Congratulations to your new family! Griffin was looking at the photos with me and said, "Mommy, did they get their new baby? Can she come and play with me at my house?" We are so happy for all of you! Thanks for keeping us updated.

We are excited beyond words and overjoyed that you finally have Alicia. I was afraid that you wouldn't be able to get the internet connection and let us know. We have been thinking of you constantly, even in the middle of the night and I have tears in my eyes. FINALLY! Love, Grandpa and Grammy

Greg and Judy,
The Internet barely existed when
I was in Nanchang to meet my Emma
(July 1997)--and now there you are
and here you are!!! What a delight
to share this experience via your
blog--Today is indeed a sacred day
for the three of you.
Blessings!
